Prawn Fried Rice Recipe

This recipe is for those times when you long to eat something really tasty but you don't have the energy to cook elaborately. Prawn is one of the most loved seafoods and prawn fried rice is something you'll adore if you are one of those who just can't live without non vegetarian food. This is one pot cooking, you don't need any side dish to go with prawn fried rice. This recipe has all you need in a meal- rice, lots of veggies and of course , prawns!

I made this fried rice on a day when I was not feeling like cooking too much. I had some 8-10 prawns in my deep fridge and luckily had vegetables that make rice even tastier. All I needed to do was lend some mild flavours to the prawns and fry the rice along with veggies, prawns and just the right mix of spices! And I did just that!

Let's have the prawn fried rice recipe now.

Get Ingredients for Prawn Fried Rice

Open your fridge and take these things out:

  • Prawns- 8-10 (or more!)
  • Vegetables like capsicum, carrots, beans, baby corn, mushroom, peas (I used baby corns, capsicum and peas- that was all I had in the fridge!)- you need 1 cup of chopped vegetables
  • Soy sauce- 1-2 tsp
  • Vinegar- 1 tsp (or lemon juice)
Other ingredients that you will need for prawn fried rice:

  • Cooked rice- 2-4 cups
  • Onion- 1 medium or 2 small
  • Garlic cloves- 3-4
  • Salt
  • Black pepper- 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Oil- 1-2 tbsp

Make Prawn Fried Rice

Marinade the prawns:

  • Take the prawns in a bowl
  • Add 1 tsp vinegar or lemon juice, 1/2 tsp soy sauce, 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/4 tsp black pepper powder and salt
  • Mix them all with prawns and keep aside for 10 minutes
Prepare Vegetables:

  • Chop the vegetables
  • Chop the onions
  • Peel and chop the garlic cloves finely

Cook the Prawn Fried Rice:

  • If you have left over rice in your fridge, you can use that otherwise you will first need to cook the rice.
  • Take 2 tbsp of oil in a pan  and heat it
  • Add the marinated prawns to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes. Don't overdo as this can make the prawns rubbery

  • Take out the prawns and keep aside

  • In the same oil, add chopped onion and fry for a minute (if needed, you may add 1 more tbsp of oil)
  • Now add the garlic and fry for another couple of minutes

  • Add peas if using. As peas take a little longer to cook, add them first and fry for 2-3 minutes. However, if you are using frozen peas, no need to cook them for longer. You can add frozen peas along with other veggies.

  • Now add the other vegetables and the fried prawns
  • Add salt, pepper and 1/2 tsp of soy sauce

  • Mix all the things well
  • Now add the cooked rice and fry for 2-3 minutes

  • Your prawn fried rice is ready. It took about 20 minutes to get the dish on to the plate! If you didn't have cooked rice, you will take another 10-15 minutes to get your prawn fried rice.

Serve it in style!
