Nutritious Palak Paneer!


This is the delicious recipe for all those who want to have nutritious food too! Palak or the Spinach is one of the most nutritious vegetables full with antioxidants and iron content. Paneer or the cottage cheese, though a little fattening, is a good source of calcium and all the other nutritions that can be obtained from milk products.



What Ingredients Would You Need for Palak Paneer?

  • Spinach or Palak- ½ Kg
  • Cottage Cheese or Paneer- 200 gm cut into small squre pieces
  • Onion- 2 medium or 3 small (cut into 3-4 pieces)
  • Garlic cloves- 2-3
  • Ginger- ½ inch piece
  • Tomatoes- 2 small or 1 big (cut into four pieces)
  • Cumin seeds- a pinch full
  • Turmeric powder- ¼ tsp
  • Chili powder- ¼ tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder- ½ tsp (garam masala is a spice mix having cardamom, cloves and cinnamon powders in equal proportion)
  • Oil- 1-2 tsp
  • Salt- as per taste
This ingredient will give you palak paneer for 4-5 people.

How to Make Palak Paneer?

  • Wash the spinach and then soak it in ample water in a big pan for about 5-10 minutes. Drain the water and again soak it in fresh water for 5-10 minutes and drain. This will remove all the soil and dirt from palak.
  • Blanch the spinach. For this, boil water and add the washed spinach in it. Let it on flame for about 2-3 minutes. Drain and keep it aside to let it cool.
  • Take the onion, tomatoes, garlic, ginger and make a paste of them using mixer grinder.
  • Take the boiled spinach and make a paste of it using mixer grinder. Add some water if it becomes too thick.
  • In cooking pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds.
  • When the cumin seeds splatter, add the onion tomato paste. Stir a little frequently.
  • When it leaves oil from corners, add the powdered spices- turmeric, chili, and garam masala.
  • Again stir until it leaves oil. If needed, use few drops of water.
  • When your spice base of gravy is ready, add the spinach paste and salt.
  • Cover and let it simmer. Stir in between frequently.
  • When you see the palak paste getting just the right consistency of your choice, add the cottage cheese (paneer) pieces.
  • After about 4-5 minutes, put off the gas flame and cover the pan. Let it be like this for few minutes.
  • Serve hot with chapatis.
